Universal Accessibility(Online)

Aim

A broad aim of this CPD is to understand the need, challenges, opportunities and strategies for integrating universal accessibility in Heritage sites.

Content

The INTACH CPD on ‘Universal Access in Heritage Sites’ is a one of its kind programme designed to sensitize and educate on the problem of universal access for diverse populations in heritage sites as it has been recognized as a global mandate to foster social inclusion. Each heritage site is unique and presents its own opportunities and limitations for universal access for its visitors. Sound knowledge of diverse abilities in visitors and innovative thinking can help to create accessible heritage experiences for all irrespective of the differences, while keeping the historical fabric intact.

We will explore the intersection of Disability and heritage by examining the barriers, user experiences, possibilities, and examples of best practices of access to heritage sites across the world. The exploration shall include hands-on exercises, simulations, and accessibility audit of selected case studies of heritage sites in India.
