Cultural and Heritage Entrepreneurship

Aim
The aim of the course is to train the participants in the tools to become entrepreneurs in the
culture and heritage domain and help them develop innovative approaches for it.
Content
The potential of culture and heritage to support economic development and generate livelihood for its practitioners has long been ignored, this has led to the situation where the continuity of cultural and heritage has become a challenge lately. The interventions, schemes,
policies by the government are helping but are not enough to tackle the issues faced by the practitioners in these fields. Hence this course aims to bridge a gap which can be filled by channelising culture and heritage as an asset and developing an entrepreneurial environment to make it sustainable.
In this course the participants will be trained in the tools that will help them design comprehensive entrepreneurial plans with culture and heritage at its core. They will interact with industry experts to develop and expand their plans and understand the importance of the various components that form a part of it.
In collaboration with our knowledge partners NICE- Network of Indian Cultural Enterprises (NICE), the course will give an overview of various aspects required for becoming a successful cultural and heritage entrepreneur.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the participants will be able to:
- Discuss the role of entrepreneurship in the domain of culture and heritage
- Apply concepts and skills related to entrepreneurship
- Develop an entrepreneurial idea related to culture and heritage

Storytelling in Heritage Tourism

Aim
To impart knowledge and skills for appreciating, preserving, and responsibly promoting cultural heritage sites, fostering sustainable tourism practices and community engagement through the art of Storytelling.
Content
Storytelling in Heritage Tourism covers the application of the art of storytelling to showcase the historical and cultural significance of heritage sites. Participants delve into concepts of interpretation, curation, design and presentation to create meaningful visitor experiences.
The course explores the impact of tourism on heritage sites, addressing issues of carrying capacity sustainability, and socio-cultural implications. Participants learn about management strategies, including stakeholder collaboration. Cultural sensitivity and ethical considerations in heritage tourism are discussed, highlighting the importance of respecting local communities and traditions. Business aspects, such as marketing and revenue generation are also covered to ensure well-rounded learning. By the end of the course, participants would be equipped to balance the economic potential of tourism with heritage values, enhancing the visitor experience and maintaining the site’s integrity.
Upon completion of this course the participants will be able to gain:
- Identify the role of local communities in heritage tourism.
- Apply appropriate research methodology for collating and analyzing data.
- Craft compelling narratives for heritage sites.
- Apply sustainable, heritage sensitive and community centric approaches in tourism.
