Heritage Awards
Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) has initiated a nation-wide Heritage Awards programme for Excellence in Documentation of Unprotected Heritage Structures in India. The INTACH Heritage Awards Programme is established with an objective to encourage interest and talent of students for the understanding and documentation of heritage buildings, and also develop and promote sensitivity and awareness amongst students of architecture across the country.
This programme intends to promote documentation of heritage buildings and sites of historic, architectural and cultural significance. The Council of Architecture guidelines also emphasize on this aspect in theteaching curriculum for all architectural colleges. It is important for students to physically document, understand, analyze and interpret historic structures, so that they inculcate sensitivity and appreciation for our heritage.
Key Objectives of the programme
- Create awareness and develop interest among students and faculty for the preservation of the architectural heritage of India.
- Promote love and care for our heritage by exploring and analysing its various architectural, cultural, historic and social aspects.
- Encourage a unique way of learning by documenting and drawing on a practical hands-on basis.
- Emphasize on the fact that in-depth understanding of a heritage site can add to a full and complete experience of the site.
- Establish a relationship between documentation – understanding – analysis – interpretation –presentation.
- Provide exposure to traditional building knowledge systems, materials and techniques.
- Value and preserve arts, crafts and skills associated with heritage sites.
- Develop resource material for protection and conservation of architectural heritage.
- Develop resource material for further study and research in this field.
- Create a forum for exchange of ideas, views and experiences.
- Disseminate this knowledge and documentation material by way of publications, events, exhibitions and workshops.
The awards for these documentations are given in three zones:
- A) North Zone
- B) Central Zone
- C) South Zone
