Unlock your creativity by designing and creating both two- and three-dimensional objects. This hands-on experience will guide you through the process and inspire you to bring your ideas to life!
About this course
Ply-split braiding is a unique textile that is historically used to make camel belts or tangs in the desert regions of Rajasthan and Gujarat. In this technique the cord passes through other cords rather than over/under or around it. Traditionally made using black and white goat hair by the herding communities like meghwal, rabarais and maldhaaris of Rajasthan and Gujarat, the craft is slowly dying out. The technique offers a unique opportunity to create 3 dimensional and long lasting objects.
Prof. Nelson has been engaged with the craft and the community for more than 4 decades and is working on reviving the craft amongst the younger generations of the crafting community. Through this workshop crafts enthusiasts will get an opportunity to learn the technique and propagate it.
