Research Methodology

Aim

The aim of this Certificate Course is to develop a critical thinking approach to understanding, examining and interpreting the issues and complexities related to research, particularly in the heritage sector.

Content

Research is a scientific and systematic search for pertinent information on a specific topic. The course on Research Methodology will establish the importance of scientific and systematic approach to academic inquiry. The course focuses on developing cross-cutting linkages between the themes and disciplines within social sciences, in order to develop a wider understanding of ‘heritage’. It will inculcate analytical and inductive thinking, demonstrate an approach to investigation on a specific theme, and promote the development of data organizational skills.

The course will identify the tools for designing a research strategically, for a focused understanding of how to process data and information and create an informed output. A critical component of the course will be on how to address plagiarism, citation and referencing. It intends to develop a specialized approach and skills for wider and relevant reading, critical insight, reflective thinking, academic writing, expanded vocabulary, and structured approach towards a reliable, solid and impactful research.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course the participants should:

  • Gain an introduction to the significance and meaning of systematic and scientific research.
  • Develop an understanding of various methods and approaches to structured research.
  • Gain a scientific approach to cultural studies and theories – evolving holistic and integrated habits of thoughts.
  • Recognize the components of data and information and their application & management.
  • Use the techniques of appreciation and criticism as an underlying tool in research.
  • Gain an insight into plagiarism and referencing.

Focus area of the Course

  • Introduction to significant and meaningful research.
  • Understanding on how to conduct research on heritage matters.
  • Understanding on how to structure one’s research.
  • Developing a core multi-disciplinary dialogue in the context of heritage structure.
  • Evolving a holistic and integrated habit of critical thinking.
  • Using techniques of appreciation and criticism as an underlying tool in research.

Mode of Assessment

By the end of the course, participants will be asked to submit a paper and will be assessed on their reflection on the topic, critical thinking, and involvement. It will be assessed by one of our lecture speakers.

There will be 10 days of classes delivered over 5 months (March 2022 – July 2022) on Thursdays.

Registration Fees

Indian Nationals : INR 9,000 + 18% GST = INR 10,620

A concession 10% will be given to IHA Alumni and INTACH Members and 20% concession to Student (on submission of valid student id cards)
