27 JUNE – 1 JULY 2016

Aim
The course will introduce some of the key philosophical issues and practical challenges in conservation of books and manuscripts.

Content
Books and manuscripts are very important part of material heritage. They are very fragile and most of the times it is not feasible to get them conserved in conservation centers. There are numerous such examples where these important pieces of heritage have been damaged beyond repair due to lack of knowledge of conservation of books and manuscripts. There are libraries in colleges, schools and other organizations which have lot of old books and manuscripts which need conservation.

The course is designed to provide an understanding on the conservation of old books and manuscripts. The course will deal with in-situ conservation methods. The theory will be supported by illustrative discussions and practical hands-on session at site. This practical training course will be held at the Andhra University library.
